THP’s New Rescue Helicopter Rescues Woman Who Fell Down Cliff

Sparta, Tenn.— Using the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s new Bell 429 rescue helicopter, the THP’s Special Operations Unit rescued a woman who fell down a cliff in White County.

The Special Operations Unit was requested to assist the White County EMA and sheriff’s office on a rescue mission on Tuesday to help a woman who had fallen down a 40 foot cliff the day before. Kayakers had heard the woman call for help.

THP Aviation Lieutenant Brad Lund, Troopers Brian Ramsey and Jason Johnson flew the new rescue helicopter to the area, where they located the female subject. Troopers safely secured her and hoisted her to safety. The hoist mission was over 75 feet and was located on a ridge with minimal room to operate.

Lt. Lund transported the woman to the awaiting Erlanger Life Force helicopter.
