9/18  THE SOUL FOOD CAFÉ WILL ONCE AGAIN BE OPEN ON THURSDAY FROM 5:30PM-7PM AT THE EXCHANGE STREET CHURCH OF CHRIST IN UNION CITY.  THIS WEEK, FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH WILL BE PROVIDING A FREE MEAL TO THE COMMUNITY.  THE SOUL FOOD CAFÉ IS OPEN THE 1ST& 3RD THURSDAY EVENINGS OF EACH MONTH AND WILL FEATURE A FREE MEAL PROVIDED BY A LOCAL CHURCH OR COMMUNITY GROUP.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT MORE OR IF YOU WANT TO VOLUNTEER, CALL 885-1507

9/19  THE PARIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FALL KICK-OFF FESTIVAL WILL BE FRIDAY FROM 4:30PM-7PM.  THEY’LL HAVE BOUNCE HOUSES, LADDER GOLF, CONCESSIONS AND MORE.  TICKETS ARE $.50 AND THEY’LL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR.

9/20  THE JDRF “WALK TO CURE DIABETES” WILL BE SATURDAY FROM 10AM-NOON AT GRAHAM PARK IN UNION CITY.  IN COOPERATION WITH JDRF, THE WALK IS TO BRING AWARENESS TO TYPE 1 DIABETES IN OUR AREA AND RAISE FUNDS FOR RESEARCH INTO BETTER TREATMENTS AND FINDING A CURE.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO FORM A TEAM OR DONATE, VISIT FACEBOOK.COM/JDRFWESTTN.

9/20  LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES NATIONAL RECREATION AREA WILL OFFER FREE GENERAL ADMISSION TO TEACHERS THIS SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY TO THE HOMEPLACE, GOLDEN POND PLANETARIUM AND WOODLANDS NATURE STATION.  ALL CURRENT AND RETIRED TEACHERS, HOME EDUCATORS AND THEIR IMMEDIATE FAMILIES QUALIFY FOR FREE ENTRY.

9/20  CYCLISTS ARE NEEDED FOR “THE TOUR DE REELFOOT” ON SATURDAY, STARTING AT 8AM.  THE 16 OR 30 MILE EVENT WILL TAKE RIDERS AROUND REELFOOT LAKE AND ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT REELFOOT RURAL MINISTRIES.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT MORE OR IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GET REGISTERED, GO TO REELFOOTBIKERIDE.COM.

9/20  THE 15TH ANNUAL MID-SOUTH MOTORCYCLE FESTIVAL AND BOSS HOSS NATIONAL RALLY WILL RUN THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY AT PARIS LANDING STATE PARK.  THE ANNUAL PARADE WILL BEGIN IN DOWNTOWN PARIS AT 10:30AM FRIDAY MORNING FOLLOWED BY THIS WEEK’S “NOON ON THE SQUARE” EVENT FEATURING MUSIC FROM THE BARRONS.  OTHER EVENTS THIS WEEKEND INCLUDE A 5K RUN SATURDAY MORNING AND THE 6TH ANNUAL BOSS HOSS BURNOUT BBQ COOKOFF.  TO FIND OUT MORE, GO TO MIDSOUTHBIKEFEST.COM.  

9/20  THE UNION CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL OFFER FREE CAR SEAT INSPECTIONS AND EDUCATION ON SATURDAY FROM 9AM-1PM AT TERRY PETTY CHEVROLET.  TECHNICIANS WILL TEACH PARENTS & CAREGIVERS HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT CAR SEAT FOR THEIR CHILD AND HOW TO INSTALL IT CORRECTLY.

9/20  THE HENRY COUNTY MARCHING PATRIOTS WILL HOST THE HENRY COUNTY MARCHING INVITATIONAL BAND COMPETITION ON SATURDAYAT PATRIOT STADIUM IN PARIS.  OVER 19 HIGH SCHOOL BANDS WILL BE AT THE COMPETITION AND IT WILL ALSO FEATURE AN EXHIBITION SHOW FROM THE MURRAY STATE RACER BAND TOO.  TICKETS ARE $7 WITH KIDS 6 & UNDER ADMITTED FREE.  THERE WILL ALSO BE A LIVE WEB STREAM OF THE COMPETITION IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND IN PERSON.  GO TO HTTP://NEW.LIVESTREAM.COM/WATCH AND THEN TYPE “HENRY COUNTY MARCHING INVITATIONAL” IN THE SEARCH WINDOW.

9/21  PINEY CAMPGROUND AT LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES WILL HOST ITS 41ST ANNUAL CAMPERS’ FAIR, SEPTEMBER 17TH-24TH.  THE FAIR WILL SHOWCASE THE NEWEST IN RVS, CAMPING EQUIPMENT, GOLF CARTS AND BOATS.  THERE WILL ALSO BE A FLEA MARKET WITH ARTS, CRAFTS AND OTHER ITEMS FOR SALE.  THE EVENT IS OPEN AND FREE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20TH FROM 8AM-4PM AND ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21ST FROM 10AM-2PM.

9/21  THE GOOD SAMARITAN HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER WILL HOST A PAINTING PARTY FUNDRAISER ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH FROM 3PM-5:30PM AT THE CENTER IN FULTON.  AN ARTIST WILL LEAD PAINTERS, IN STROKE-BY-STROKE INSTRUCTION, ON HOW TO CREATE A FALL HARVEST SCENE.  THE COST IS $36 AND YOU MUST SIGN UP BY SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21ST.  PROCEEDS FROM THIS EVENT WILL BENEFIT THE HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER.  TO FIND OUT MORE OR TO GET SIGNED UP, CALL 731-335-1038

9/26  THE UNION CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PTO WILL HOST A TAILGATE PARTY ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH FROM 5PM TO 7PM IN FRONT OF THE TURF BUILDING ON MILES AVENUE.  THEY’LL HAVE HAMBURGER AND HOT DOG DINNERS FOR $5, BOUNCE HOUSES FOR THE KIDS, PICTURES WITH THE UCHS CHEERLEADERS AND MORE.  PLUS, KIDS WHO COME DRESSED IN PURPLE & GOLD, WILL GET FREE ADMISSION TO THE UNION CITY/DRESDEN GAME.  ADULTS WHO SPEND $10 AT THE TAIL GATE WILL ALSO GET IN FREE.  THE FUN STARTS AT 5PM ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH IN FRONT OF THE UNION CITY TURF BUILDING.

9/27  THE TOWN OF HUNTINGDON WILL HOST THEIR 22ND ANNUAL HERITAGE DAY WITH THE “ONE WAY MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL” ON SATURDAY , SEPTEMBER 27TH FROM 10:30M UNTIL 8PM.  THE ALL DAY EVENT WILL FEATURE MUSICAL PERFORMANCES BY WIRE AND WOOD, DOUBLE EDGE, CARL MANN AND THE REBA RUSSELL BAND.  PLUS, THEY’LL HAVE FOOD, ARTS VENDORS AND ACTIVTIES FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 731-986-2100 OR VISIT DIXIEPAC.NET.

9/30  THE PARIS HENRY COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL WILL HOST THE “ROOTS OF RHYTHM” ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH AT THE KRIDER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER IN PARIS STARTING AT 7PM.  PERFORMED BY THE UTM PERCUSSION GROUP AND THE HCHS MADRIGALS, THIS SHOW WILL TELL THE HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY OF WHERE OUR MUSICAL HISTORY CAME FROM.  IT’S $5 FOR STUDENTS AND $10 FOR ADULTS.  TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE ARTS COUNCIL OFFICE, FROM ANY COUNCIL MEMBER, LEACHES AND MERISONS.  ALL PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE PARIS HENRY COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL. 

9/30  THE W.G. RHEA LIBRARY IS ONCE AGAIN HOSTING THEIR LEGO LEAGUE ON A REGULAR BASIS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR.  LEGO BUILDERS WILL MEET ONCE A MONTH TO READ A BOOK AND DESIGN THEIR THEMED CREATION. THE LEAGUE WILL MEET THE SECOND MONDAY OF EACH MONTH FROM 3:30PM-4:30PM WITH THE NEXT TWO MEETING DATES BEING OCTOBER 13TH AND NOVEMBER 10TH.  LEGO DONATIONS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED TOO.  JUST DROP THEM OFF AT THE CIRCULATION DESK AT THE LIBRARY.

10/5  MASQUERADE THEATER WILL STAGE HARPER LEE’S “TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD” AT THE CAPITOL THEATER IN DOWNTOWN UNION CITY FOR TWO WEEKENDS STARTING ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH.    FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT SHOWS WILL BE AT 7:30PM AND SUNDAY AFTERNOON SHOWS WILL BE AT 2PM.  TICKETS ARE $10 EACH AND YOU CAN GET THEM IN ADVANCE BY GOING TO UCMASQUERADETHEATRE.COM OR AT THE CAPITOL THEATER BOX OFFICE 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO SHOW TIME.

10/8  BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN UNION CITY WILL SPONSOR “GRIEF SHARE”, A GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP, ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOONS FOR FIVE WEEKS STARTING ON OCTOBER 8TH.  THE GROUP WILL MEET FROM 3PM-4:30PM IN THE HOSPITAL’S ADMINISTRATIVE CONFERENCE ROOM LOCATED NEAR THE EAST ENTERANCE.  IF YOU HAVE LOST A LOVED ONE, YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.  CALL 884-8210 TO FIND OUT MORE.
