10/31  MAIN STREET UNION CITY WILL HAVE THEIR DOWNTOWN TRICK OR TREAT FESTIVITIES ON FRIDAY.  BRAYLEE’S ZOO WILL HAVE A COSTUME CONTEST FROM 2PM-8PM, FIRST STATE BANK WILL HOST A TRUNK OR TREAT AT 3:30PM IN MERCHANTS PARK AND MASQUERADE THEATER WILL SHOW “THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW” AT THE CAPITAL STARTING AT 11PM.  TICKETS FOR THE R-RATED MOVIE ARE $15 AND THEY INCLUDE A PROP BAG.

10/31  A TRUNK OR TREAT EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE ON FIRST STREET IN PURYEAR ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT 5.  KIDS ARE ENCOURAGED TO WEAR THEIR COSTUMES AND ADULTS ARE ASKED TO ENTER FOR A CHANCE AT THE PRIZE OF “MOST CREATIVE TRUNK”.  THE PURYEAR UNITED METHODIST CHURCH WILL BE SERVING HOTS DOGS TOO.  EVERYONE IS WELCOMED TO COME OUT AND CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN IN PURYEAR ON FRIDAY.

10/31  DISCOVERY PARK OF AMERICA WILL HOST A HALLOWEEN COSTUME CONTEST AT LIBATION STATION ON FRIDAY.  LIBATION STATION WILL BE OPEN FROM 5PM-9PM AND THE CONTEST WILL BE HELD AT 7:30PM.  THREE GRAND PRIZES WILL BE AWARD TO THE BEST DRESSED.  FOR DETAILS, VISIT DISCOVERYPARKOFAMERICA.COM.

10/31  ABERNATHY’S HARLEY DAVIDSON IN UNION CITY WILL HOST THEIR “HARLEY-WEEN” PARTY ON FRIDAY FROM 1PM-6PM.  THEY’LL HAVE TRICK-OR-TREATING FOR THE KIDS, A HALLOWEEN CONTEST AT 5PM AND LOTS OF FREE FOOD AND DRINKS.

10/31  MARTIN PARKS AND RECREATION WILL HAVE REGISTRATION FOR PARTICIPANTS IN THE 2ND THROUGH 8TH GRADE FOR THEIR YOUTH LEAGUE BASKETBALL PROGRAM THROUGH FRIDAY DURING REGULAR OFFICE HOURS.  PRACTICES WILL BEGIN THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 17TH AND THE SEASON WILL BEGIN IN JANUARY.  IT’S A $35 FEE TO PARTICIPATE.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 587-6784.

11/1  THE KRIDER PERFORMER ARTS CENTER YOUNG ARTISTS’ THEATRE WINTER WORKSHOP AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH AGES 5-18.  REGISTRATION WILL BE 9AM-11AM.  REHEARSALS WILL BE HELD THROUGHOUT THE MONTHS OF NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER.  THE WINTER WORKSHOP SHOW WILL BE SATURDAY, JANUARY 3RD.  THE COST IS $40 PER PATICIPANT.

11/1  THE FULTON MIDDLE SCHOOL WILL HOST AN ALL DAY BASKETBALL JAMBOREE BASH ON SATURDAY FROM 9AM-6PM.  GAMES WILL BE PLAYED AT CARR ELEMENTARY AND FULTON HIGH SCHOOL.  TEAMS FROM FULTON CO, GRAVES CO AND 3 OAKS FROM DYERSBURG WILL COMPETE ALONG WITH THE FULTON MIDDLE SCHOOL BULLDOGS.  ADMISSION IS $7 PER PERSON FOR AN ALL-DAY PASS TO BOTH LOCATIONS.

11/1  THE W.G. RHEA PUBLIC LIBRARY IN PARIS WILL WELCOME OVER 11 LOCAL AND AREA-WIDE AUTHORS FOR THEIR “CORNUCOPIA OF TALENT” EVENT ON SATURDAY.  THERE WILL BE BOOK-SIGNINGS ALONG WITH MEET AND GREETS WITH SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE LOCAL AUTHORS FROM 1PM-4PM.

11/1  THE ANNUAL HOOFBEATS OF HOPE FALL FESTIVAL, WHICH WAS POSTPONED A FEW WEEKS AGO, WILL NOW BE ALL DAY SATURDAY AT CARDINAL PARK IN COTTAGE GROVE.  THERE WILL BE A CAR & MOTORCYCLE SHOW FROM 9AM TO NOON, CAKE WALK & KIDS’ GAMES STARTING AT 10AM, CORN HOLE AT NOON AND BINGO AT 3PM.  THE DAY WILL BE CAPPED OFF AT 5PM WITH CHILI AND CHILI DOGS SERVED IN THE PAVILION.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE HOOFBEATS OF HOPE THERAPEUTIC HORSEBACK RIDING PROGRAM.

11/1  THE “MUTT STRUT” 5K RUN AND 1 MILE DOG WALK WILL BE SATURDAY, AT UNION CITY HIGH SCHOOL.  REGISTRATION BEGINS AT 9AM AND THE EVENT BEGINS AT 10AM.  ENTRY FEE IS $25 ON RACE DAY.  REGISTRATION FORMS ARE AVAILABLE IN ADVANCE AT SULLIVAN DENTISTRY AND ADVANCED ORTHOPEDIC & SPORTS MEDICINE.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT TENNESSEE DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH ANIMAL RESCUE. 

11/1  SOUTH FULTON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 205 ORCHARD DRIVE, WILL HOST A PANCAKE BREAKFAST ON SATURDAY MORNING FROM 6AM-10AM.  DONATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AND EVERYONE IS WELCOME.

11/1  DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDS AT 2AM ON SUNDAY MORNING.  REMEMBER TO SET YOUR CLOCKS BACK ONE HOUR ON SATURDAY NIGHT BEFORE YOU GO TO BED.  IT’S ALSO A GOOD IDEA TO CHANGE THE BATTERIES IN YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS DURING THE TIME CHANGE IN THE FALL AND IN THE SPRING.

11/3  THE CITY OF UNION CITY PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT WILL START THEIR LEAF PICK-UP ON MONDAY.  PLACE YOUR LEAVES IN WINDROWS ADJACENT TO THE CURB.  PLEASE MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO LIMBS OR OTHER REFUGE IN WITH THE LEAVES. LEAVES MAY ALSO BE BAGGED AND LEFT AT THE CURB, NOT IN THE STREET.   LEAF CREWS WILL BE RUNNING DAILY ROUTES AND WILL COVER CITY STREETS TWICE BEFORE YEARLY COMPLETION.  TO INQUIRE ABOUT DAILY ROUTE PLANS, CALL 885-9601

11/4  THE ANNUAL HENRY COUNTY MARCHING BAND CHILI SUPPER AND SILENT AUCTION WILL BE ON TUESDAY AT THE FIRST METHODIST CHURCH IN PARIS.  THEY WILL SERVE LUNCH FROM 11AM-2PM AND SUPPER WILL BE SERVED FROM 4PM-6:30PM.  THE MENU INCLUDES PIMENTO CHEESE SANDWICHES OR HOTDOGS, ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT CHILI, HOMEMADE DESSERT AND DRINK.  TICKETS ARE $8 AND THEY’RE AVAILABE IN ADVANCE FROM ANY BAND STUDENT OR YOU CAN GET THEM AT THE DOOR.

11/4  THE PARIS HENRY ART COUNCIL WILL BEGIN PRACTICE FOR HANDEL’S “MESSIAH” COMMUNITY CONCERT ON TUESDAY NIGHT FROM 6:30PM-8:30PM AT THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH.  PRACTICE WILL CONTINUE EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER.  THE CONCERT WILL TAKE PLACE ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7TH AT 3PM UNDER THE DIRECTION OF AMY MARTIN.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 642-3955.

11/4  HENRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WILL HOST A FAMILY NIGHT ON TUESDAY FROM 3PM-7:30PM AT THE SCHOOL.  THE EVENT WILL BE HIGHLIGHTED BY “THE DOME”, AN INDOOR 3-D IMAX THEATER FUNDED BY THE HENRY COUNTY PLUS ENDOWMENT GRANT.  PLUS, THE HEALTHLY HENRY SCHOOL TEAM WILL DISTRIBUTE FREE POPCORN & WATER.

11/6  DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY CLASSES WILL BEGIN THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH AT THE DIXIE IN HUNTINGDON.  CLASSES WILL BE HELD ON THURSDAY THROUGH THE END OF DECEMBER.  THEY HAVE CLASSES AVAILABLE FOR BASIC, ADVANCED AND SPECIAL PROJECT SKILL LEVELS.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 731-986-2100 OR GO TO DIXIEPAC.NET.

11/6  THE GOOD SAMARITAN HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER IN FULTON WILL HOST A “PRETTY IN PAINT” FUNDRAISER ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH FROM 2PM-5PM IN THE HARVEY VICK ROOM OF SOUTH FULTON CITY HALL.  A LOCAL ARTIST WILL GIVE STEP-BY-STEP INSTUCTIONS ON HOW YOU CAN CREATE AN 11X16 PAINTING THAT YOU CAN TAKE HOME.  THE COST IS $36 PER PERSON AND YOU MUST REGISTER BY THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH.  CALL 270-472-0009 TO FIND OUT MORE OR TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT.

11/7  THE BASS LIPFORD RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM WILL HOST ITS ANNUAL “LOVE LIGHTS A TREE” EVENT ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH ON THE COURT HOUSE LAWN IN PARIS.  LIGHTS MAY BE PURCHASED IN HONOR OR IN MEMORY OF SOMEONE TOUCHED BY CANCER FOR A $5 DONATION.  TO PURCHASE YOUR LIGHT, CONTACT JOYCE AT 644-9680.

11/8  THE GOLDEN POND PLANETARIUM AND WEST KENTUCKY AMATEUR ASTRONOMERS WILL PRESENT “CHOOSING AND USING BINOCULARS & TELESCOPES” AT 6PM ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH, IN THE GOLDEN POND VISITOR CENTER AT THE LBL RECREATION AREA.  THE PROGRAM WILL INTRODUCE VARIOUS BINOCULARS & TELESCOPES AND THE BASICS SKILLS REQUIRED TO USE THEM.  THE PRESENTATION IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

11/8  THE 36TH ANNUAL “REELFOOT ROAD RACE” WILL BE SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH AT UNION CITY HIGH SCHOOL.  REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN AT 8:30AM AND THE EVENT WILL BEGIN AT 10AM.  THE RACE WILL FEATURE BOTH A 5K AND 10K COURSE.  REGISTRATION IS $15 IF YOU PAY BY TUESDAY OR $18 ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT.  THE FIRST 150 ENTRANTS WILL RECEIVE A FREE T-SHIRT.   TO FIND OUT MORE OR TO PRINT OFF YOUR REGISTRATION FORM, GO TO REELFOOTROADRACE.COM.

11/8  PML’S RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM WILL HOST THE JIMMY CHURCH BAND ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH FROM 8PM-MIDNIGHT AT THE PARIS CONVENTION CENTER.  TICKETS ARE $20 PER PERSON AND RESERVATIONS WILL BE ACCPETED FOR THOSE WHO PURCHASE 8 OR MORE TICKETS IN ADVANCE.  TO FIND OUT MORE OR TO GET YOUR TICKETS, CALL 642-7398 (EXTENSION #221).  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT HENRY COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE.

11/14  HELPING HAND APPLICATIONS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR ORGANIZATIONS WISHING TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ANNUAL RADIO AUCTION THIS YEAR.  APPLICATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE PARIS PI OFFICE UNTIL 5PM ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14TH.
