5/23  THE 40TH ANNUAL SPRING FESTIVAL WILL BE HELD THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY IN BIG SANDY.  SATURDAY BRINGS THE “BACK TO THE 70’S” PARADE ALONG WITH A CAR SHOW, MISS TENNESSEE HAILEY LEWIS, MUSIC FROM THE TENNESSEE RIVER BAND AND A FIREWORKS DISPLAY. 

5/23  THE “MASONRY MATTERS” PANCAKE BREAKFAST WILL BE SATURDAY FROM 6AM-11AM AT THE MASONIC LODGE, ACROSS FROM THE POST OFFICE, IN FULTON, KY.  THE ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BREAKFAST IS JUST $5.  PROCEEDS WILL GO TOWARDS HELPING UNDER-PRIVILEGED CHILDREN IN FULTON/SOUTH FULTON SCHOOLS.

5/23  THE 3RD ANNUAL HENRY COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE YARD SALE WILL BE FRIDAY, AND SATURDAY AT THE VFW ON HIGHWAY 79.  THERE WILL BE LOTS OF CLOTHES, JEWELRY, TOYS, GLASSWARE AND BOOKS FOR SALE.  ALL PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT HENRY COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE.

5/23  THERE WILL BE A BBQ SALE ON SATURDAY STARTING AT 10AM IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE OLD REELFOOT PACKING PLANT ON REELFOOT AVENUE IN UNION CITY.  SMOKED BUTTS ARE $30, A FULL RACK OF RIBS IS $20 OR YOU CAN GET BBQ BY THE POUND FOR $7.  THIS FUNDRAISER IS SPONSORED BY THE REELFOOT BAPTIST CHURCH WITH PROCEEDS BENEFITING THE HOMETOWN WALK OF HOPE EVENT.

5/23 THE CIVITAN CLUB OF UNION CITY WILL BEGIN THEIR ANNUAL SUMMER TENNIS CLINIC WITH REGISTRATION ON SATURDAY AT 10AM AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS COURTS.  THE CLINIC IS OPEN TO BOTH CHILDREN AND ADULTS AND WILL BE EVERY SATURDAY FROM 9AM-10:30AM.  REGISTRATION IS $10 PER PERSON OR $15 FOR TWO OR MORE.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 885-9730.

5/24  FORT DONELSON NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD PARK WILL HOST MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS THIS WEEKEND INCLUDING A FREE CONCERT FEATURING “THE CUMBERLAND WINDS” AT THE VISITOR CENTER AT 3PM ON SUNDAY AND A PROGRAM AT THE NATIONAL CEMETERY AT 1PM ON MONDAY AFTERNOON.

5/25  THE HENRY COUNTY MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE WILL BE AT 8AM ON MONDAY AT THE HENRY COUNTY COURTHOUSE LAWN.  TONY VAN DYKE WILL BE THE SPEAKER AND ALL THE VETERANS’ ORGANIZATIONS OF HENRY COUNTY WILL BE REPRESENTED.  AFTER THE CEREMONY, LUNCH WILL BE SERVED AT THE VFW POST 1889 ON HIGHWAY 79N OUTSIDE OF PARIS.

5/25  THERE WILL BE A BOSTON BUTT SALE ON MEMORIAL DAY.    THE COST IS $25 AND YOU CAN PICK UP YOUR ORDER ON MONDAY BETWEEN 11AM-1PM AT BOB COOLEY’S HOME ON TURNER STREET IN UNION CITY.  TO PLACE YOUR ORDER, CALL 796-1536.  ALL PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT HOMETOWN WALK OF HOPE.

5/25  DISCOVERY PARK OF AMERICA WILL BRING HISTORY TO LIFE WITH THEIR “WWII LIVING HISTORY” EVENT ON THE GREAT LAWN OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND.  THERE WILL BE A WORLD WAR II ENCAMPMENT SATURDAY THROUGH, MONDAY ALONG WITH GUEST SPEAKERS AND WEAPON DEMONSTRATIONS.  PLUS, ALL MILITARY PERSONNEL WILL BE ADMITTED FREE OF CHARGE TO DPA ON MEMORIAL DAY.  TO FIND OUT MORE OR TO SEE A COMPLETE LIST OF EVENTS, GO TO DISCOVERYPARKOFAMERICA.COM.

5/25  THE HENRY COUNTY SPEECH TEAM IS SPONSORING A SPEECH AND ACTING WORKSHOP FROM JUNE 1ST – 5TH FROM 9AM-NOON AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.  THIS IS FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 5TH GRADE THROUGH 8TH GRADE.  STUDENTS MAY CHOOSE FROM PUBLIC SPEAKING& DEBATE, DUET ACTING, BROADCASTING, MONOLOGUES OR ORAL INTERPRETATION OF LITERATURE.  THE COST IS $25 FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK AND A PERFORMANCE.  REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS MONDAY, MAY 25TH.  YOU CAN SIGN UP BY EMAILING MILLERL@HENRYK12.NET OR TODDH@HENRYK12.NET.

5/26 THE FIRST DOWNTOWN PARIS CRUISE-IN FOR THE SEASON KICKS OFF TUESDAY, MAY 26TH ON THE EAST-SIDE OF THE COURT SQUARE IN DOWNTOWN PARIS STARTING AT 5:30PM.  THERE WILL BE MUSIC FOOD, GIVEAWAYS AND LOTS OF FUN.

5/27  THE TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS WILL HOST A CAREER FAIR ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 27TH FROM 10AM-6PM AT THE OBION COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY.  RECRUITERS WILL BE ON HAND TO DISCUSS OPPORTUNITIES AT THE NORTHWEST CORRECTION COMPLEX.  THERE ARE OPENINGS FOR CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS AS WELL AS POSITIONS IN FOOD SERVICE, MAINTENANCE, EDUCATION AND MEDICAL.

5/29  LIFELINE BLOOD SERVICE WILL BE MAKING A FEW STOPS IN OUR AREA SOON.  LIFELINE WILL BE AT HEALTHQUEST IN UNION CITY ON TUESDAY FROM NOON-7PM AND AT THE WEAKLEY EAST RELAY FOR LIFE EVENT IN GLEASON ON FRIDAY, MAY 29TH FROM 7PM-11PM.  COME OUT AND DONATE TO HELP AREA HOSPITALS KEEP AN ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF BLOOD FOR YOUR COMMUNITY

5/30 SATURDAY, MAY 30TH WILL BE A “CHILDREN’S DAY ON THE FARM” AT THE HOMEPLACE AT THE LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES NATIONAL RECREATION AREA.  CHILDREN WILL LEARN THE IMPORTANCE OF DOING CHORES ON AN 1850’S FARM LIKE MAKING A BED, WEAVING AND WORKING WITH MULES AND OXEN AT TEAMSTER TRAINING.  CHILDREN CAN EARN CREDITS FOR THEIR HARD WORK THAT CAN BE USED IN THE GENERAL STORE DURING THE DAY.  ADMISSION IS $5 FOR 13 & UP, $3 FOR AGES 5-12 AND AGES 4 & UNDER ARE FREE.  TO GET ALL THE DETAILS, GO TO LANDBETWEENTHELAKES.US.

5/30 THE PARIS-HENRY COUNTY HERITAGE CENTER IS HOSTING A QUILT SHOW FEATURING QUILTS OWNED AND CREATED BY HENRY COUNTY QUILTERS.  THE EXHIBIT WILL FEATURE ANTIQUE QUILTS AS WELL AS CONTEMPORARY CREATIONS.  THE EXHIBIT RUNS THROUGH MAY 30TH AT THE HERITAGE CENTER IN PARIS.  ADMISSION IS FREE.

5/31  DURING THIS GRADUATION SEASON, THE OBION COUNTY PREVENTION COALITION WANTS TO REMINDS YOU THAT IF YOU’RE UNDER 21, YOU CANNOT HAVE ANY ALCOHOL IN YOUR BLOODSTREAM UNDER THE TENNESSEE “ZERO TOLERANCE LAW”.  IF YOU DRINK AND GET CAUGHT, YOU COULD FACE SEVERE PENALTIES.  AND PARENTS, IF YOU MAKE ALCOHOL AVAILABLE AT TEEN PARTIES, YOU CAN BE PROSECUTED.  BEFORE YOU DRINK, THINK!

6/5  THE OBION COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY WILL HOLD EARLY REGISTRATION FOR THEIR SUMMER READING PROGRAM WITH “SUPER WHY” FROM PBS STATION WLJT ON FRIDAY, JUNE 5TH AT 2PM.  THE KICK-OFF PARTY WILL BE MONDAY, JUNE 8TH AT 10AM WITH BOUNCE HOUSES, THE BALLOON GUY AND MORE.  FOR EVERY 10 BOOKS A CHILD READS THIS SUMMER, THEY WILL EARN PRIZES FROM LOCAL BUSINESSES.  TO FIND OUT MORE OR TO GET REGISTERED IN ADVANCE GO TO OCLIBRARY.ORG.

6/6 THE 7TH ANNUAL HOPE AND OPPORTUNITY GOLF TOURNAMENT WILL BE SATURDAY, JUNE 6TH AT THE TENNESSEAN GOLF COURSE IN SPRINGVILLE.  Its $60 PER PLAYER AND THAT INCLUDES CART, ALL GREEN FEES AND LUNCH.  CHECK IN BEGINS AT 7AM WITH A SHOTGUN START AT 8AM.  THERE IS A $1000 PRIZE FOR THE LOWEST SCORING TEAM.  PROCEEDS FROM THE TOURNAMENT WILL BENEFIT THE R.E.A.L. 6/6  THE YORKVILLE 8TH GRADE PARENTS WILL SPONSOR A GOSPEL SINGING AT THE YORKVILLE COMMUNITY CENTER ON SATURDAY, JUNE 6TH FEATURING “THE PRIMITIVE QUARTET”.  ADVANCED TICKETS ARE $12 AND THEY ARE AVAILABLE AT THE DIAMOND GALLERY IN DYERSBURG, FIVE SEASONS IN UNION CITY AND DUNCAN PHARMACY IN DYER.  TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR FOR $14.  A WHITE BEAN AND HAMBURGER SUPPER WILL BE HELD BEFORE THE MUSIC AT 5PM.    

6/13  THE 4TH ANNUAL DYER STATION CELEBRATION TOY RUN WILL BE SATURDAY, JUNE 13TH.  REGISTRATION FOR THE 90 MILE RIDE WILL BEGIN AT 10AM AT THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN MANSE HOUSE IN DYER WITH KICKSTANDS UP AT NOON.  IT IS $10 PER RIDER OR A $10 TOY.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE DYER STATION GIVING TREE FOR CHRISTMAS.  CALL 731-225-3071 TO FIND OUT MORE.
