8/5  MARTIN YOUTH TACKLE FOOTBALL REGISTRATION FOR GRADES 3-6 WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS DURING SCHOOL REGISTRATION ON WEDNESDAY FROM 8AM-11:30AM.  YOU CAN ALSO TURN IN YOUR REGISTRATION FORM AND PAYMENT AT BSN SPORTS ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.  THE REGISTRATION FEE IS $60.  FOR MORE INFORMATION, CALL 417-860-5740.

8/6  THE LIFELINE BLOOD MOBILE WILL RETURN TO FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN PARIS FOR THEIR REGULAR MONTHLY VIST ON THURSDAY FROM NOON UNTIL 6PM.  THERE IS A SPECIAL NEED FOR O POSITIVE, O NEGATIVE AND B NEGATIVE BLOOD.  THEY MISSED THEIR GOAL OF 100 DONORS LAST MONTH BY JUST 31 PEOPLE.   COME OUT ON THURSDAY AND HELP LIFELINE HIT THEIR GOAL BY DONATING BLOOD.

8/6  THE SOUTH FULTON HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL WILL SPONSOR A “FALL SPORTS KICK OFF” PROGRAM AT THE HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASIUM ON THURSDAY NIGHT STARTING AT 7PM.  PLAYERS, BAND MEMBERS AND COACHES OF ALL FALL ACTIVITIES WILL BE INTRODUCED AND HONORED.  A HOT DOG DINNER WITH CHIPS AND DRINK WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR $3.  ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE DINNER WILL HELP SUPPORT ALL ATHLETIC PROGRAMS AT BOTH SOUTH FULTON HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL.

8/7  THE DOWNTOWN PARIS ASSOCIATION WILL HOST THEIR FALL FASHION SHOW AND LUNCHEON ON FRIDAY AT THE PARIS COUNTRY CLUB AT NOON.  TICKETS ARE $20 AND CAN BE PURCHASED AT THE DOWNTOWN PARIS ASSOCIATION OFFICE.

8/7  THERE WILL BE A FREE BABY EXPO AT THE OBION COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 7TH FROM NOON-2PM.  THERE WILL BE DOOR PRIZES, SNACKS, INFORMATION AND FUN FOR MOMS, EXPECTANT MOMS…AND DADS ARE WELCOME TOO.  TO FIND OUT MORE OR TO REGISTER, CALL 885-8722

8/7  MAIN STREET UNION CITY WILL HOST A “FUN IN THE SUN” EVENT ON FRIDAY FROM 5PM-8PM IN DOWNTOWN UNION CITY.  THERE WILL BE REFRESHMENTS, FACE-PAINTING, KIDS ACTIVITIES AND LIVE ENTERTAINMENT FROM THE OBION COUNTY YOUTH MUSICAL “FAIRSHOW”.

8/8  THE TENNESSEE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE WILL HOST A FREE HUMMINGBIRD BANDING DEMONSTRATION AT THE NEW REFUGE VISITOR CENTER IN SPRINGVILLE ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 8TH FROM 9AM-3PM.  THE DEMONSTRATION WILL GIVE INTERESTING INSIGHT AND INFORMATION ABOUT THE LIVES AND HABITS OF HUMMINGBIRDS THROUGH BANDING.  THE DAY WILL ALSO INCLUDE FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY AS ARTS & CRAFTS, COLORING TABLES AND OTHER ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN WILL OCCUR THROUGHOUT THE EVENT.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 731-642-2091.

8/9  THE ANNUAL SALES TAX HOLIDAY IN TENNESSEE WILL BEGIN ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 7TH AND CONTINUE UNTIL SUNDAY, AUGUST 9TH.  DURING THAT WEEKEND, CONSUMERS WILL NOT PAY STATE OR LOCAL TAX ON CLOTHING, SCHOOL AND ART SUPPLIES THAT COST $100 OR LESS PER ITEM AND COMPUTERS THAT COST $1500 OR LESS.  FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE SALE, GO TO TNTAXHOLIDAY.COM.

8/9  MASQUERADE THEATER AND THE SPOTLIGHT PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY SUMMER CHILDREN’S WORKSHOP WILL PRESENT “THE BIG BAD MUSICAL…A HOWLING COURTROOM COMEDY” AT THE CAPITOL THEATER IN DOWNTOWN UNION CITY AGAIN THIS WEEKEND.  THIS PRODUCTION WILL FEATURE CHILDREN IN THE 3RD-6TH GRADE.  SHOWTIMES ARE 7:30PM ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AND 2PM ON SUNDAY.  TICKETS ARE JUST $10 AND THEY’RE AVAILABLE AT THE BOX OFFICE 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO SHOWTIME.

8/10  2015 UNION CITY YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE SIGN-UPS WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY FROM 10AM-NOON AND AGAIN ON MONDAY FROM 5PM-7:30PM AT THE OBION COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY.  TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PLAY, YOUR CHILD MUST BE 4 BY OCTOBER 1ST.  THE REGISTRATION FEE IS $45 PER CHILD AND $40 FOR EACH ADDITIONAL CHILD.  YOU MUST BRING A COPY OF YOUR CHILD’S BIRTH CERTIFICATE WHEN YOU COME TO THE SIGN UP.  NO LATE SIGN-UPS WILL BE ACCEPTED THIS YEAR.

8/10  UNION CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PTO CONTINUE TO COLLECT NEW AND GENTLY USED SOLID COLOR POLOS OF ALL SIZES.  THEY WANT TO HELP FAMILIES GET READY FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.  SO, IF YOU HAVE SHIRTS THAT YOUR CHILD HAS OUT-GROWN, THE PTO ASKS THAT YOU DROP THEM OFF AT THE OFFICE OF DRS JORDAN & BONDURANT ON REELFOOT AVENUE IN UNION CITY OR AT THE KF-KQ/WENK STUDIO ON NAILING DRIVE IN UNION CITY.  IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, CALL MANDY AT 270-331-3021.

8/13  NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2015 “PRIDE OF OBION COUNTY” ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED.  NOMINATIONS MUST BE BASED ON A PERSON’S LEADERSHIP, COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND CONCERN FOR OTHER PEOPLE.  THE DEADLINE IS THURSDAY, AUGUST 13TH.  THE WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN EARLY SEPTEMBER AND HONORED AT THE CORN FEST PRIDE OF OBION COUNTY LUNCHEON ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH.  FOR MORE INFORMATION, CALL 731-431-8132.
