4/17  THE DOWNTOWN PARIS ASSOCIATION WILL PRESENT THE “SPRING FASHION SHOW” ON FRIDAY FROM NOON-1PM AT THE PARIS COUNTRY CLUB.  THERE WILL BE A VARIETY OF FASHIONS AND ACCESSORIES FROM AREA BOUTIQUES AND SHOPS.  ADMISSION IS A $15 DONATION TO THE DOWNTOWN PARIS ASSOCIATION.  TO FIND OUT MORE OR TO GET YOUR TICKETS, CALL 653-7274.

4/17  WALK OF HOPE TEAM “THE GOD SQUAD” WILL HAVE A DRIVE-THRU SPAGHETTI DINNER AT THE FIRST CHURCH OF GOD ON SOUTH MILES AVENUE IN UNION CITY ON FRIDAY FROM 4PM-6PM.  JUST DRIVE THRU AND TEAM MEMBERS WILL DELIVER PLATES TO YOUR CAR.  EACH PLATE IS $5.  YOU CAN PLACE YOUR ORDER IN ADVANCE BY CALLING 885-3997.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT OBION COUNTY WALK OF HOPE.

4/17  THE TWIN CITIES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WILL HOST A TRIVIA NIGHT ON FRIDAY, APRIL 17TH FROM 7PM-9PM AT THE PONTOTOC BUILDING IN FULTON.  TEAMS WILL COMPETE BY ANSWERING REGULAR TRIVIA QUESTIONS PLUS THERE WILL BE A SPECIAL CATEGORY DEVOTED TO “TWIN CITIES PAST AND PRESENT”.  THE COST IS $100 PER TEAM AND TEAMS CAN BE UP TO 6 PLAYERS.  TO GET REGISTERED OR TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL THE CHAMBER OFFICE AT 731-479-7029.

4/17  THE ANNUAL “GLO FOR A CURE” 5K WILL BE FRIDAY AT FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN UNION CITY.  REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN AT 6:30PM AND THE RACE WILL BEGIN AT DUSK.  REGISTRATION IS  $25 ON RACE DAY.  PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED IN ALL AGE BRACKETS.  ALL PROCEEDS GO TO THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION.  TO FIND OUT MORE OR TO GET SIGNED UP, EMAIL CFFRIENDSFORACURE@GMAIL.COM.

4/18  DISCOVERY PARK OF AMERICA WILL HOST ANOTHER “PUNCH AND PAINT” CLASS IN THE LIFE ENRICHMENT CENTER ON SATURDAY FROM 9:30AM-11AM.  REGISTRATION FEE IS $30 FOR DPA MEMBERS AND $35 FOR NON-MEMBERS.  THE CLASS FEE INCLUDES ALL PAINT SUPPLIES, SNACKS AND UNLIMITED FRUIT PUNCH.  AT THIS SESSION, PARTICIPANTS CAN CHOOSE TO PAINT A DINOSAUR ON A TRACTOR OR A BUTTERFLY ON A FLOWER.  TO SIGN UP OR TO LEARN MORE, CALL DPA AT 885-5455 OR GO TO DISCOVERYPARKOFAMERICA.COM.

4/18  TEAM “GI LOWES” ARE DOING A WALK OF HOPE CAR WASH AT O’REILLY’S AUTO PARTS PARKING LOT ON SATURDAY FROM 7AM-2PM.  THE COST IS $5 PER CAR.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE OBION COUNTY WALK OF HOPE.

4/18  THE UT EXTENSION SERVICE AND OBION COUNTY HEATH DEPARTMENT WILL HOST THE OBION COUNTY FIT FEST ON SATURDAY FROM 10AM-1PM AT THE OBION COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS IN UNION CITY.  THE EVENT WILL INCLUDE A LIVE MUSIC, PEDAL CARS, COMMUNITY WALK, BOUNCE HOUSES, ZUMBA, BMI SCREENINGS AND REFRESHMENTS. 

4/18  THE BETHEL UNIVERSITY RENAISSANCE THEATER PROGRAM WILL STAGE THEIR PRODUCTION OF “LES MISERABLES” AT THE DIXIE CARTER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER IN HUNTINGDON.  PERFORMANCES WILL FRIDAY & SATURDAY NIGHT AT 7PM.  TICKETS ARE $20 EACH AND CAN BE PURCHASED IN ADVANCE AT DIXIEPAC.NET OR AT THE BOX OFFICE.

4/18  THE PARIS/HENRY COUNTY LANDFILL WILL HOLD A FREE DUMPING DAY ON SATURDAY.  BRUSH, DEMOLITION WASTE AND YARD TRIMMINGS MUST BE SEPARATED FROM SOLID WASTE.  NO HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE, TIRES OR CONSTRUCTION WASTE WILL BE ACCEPTED.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE, CALL 644-1737.

4/18  THERE WILL BE A “LADIES DAY” EVENT ON SATURDAY FROM 10AM-2PM IN THE COMMONS AREA OF OBION COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL IN TROY.  THERE WILL BE A FASHION SHOW, FITNESS DEMONSTRATIONS, DOOR PRIZES AND SHOPPING WITH LOCAL VENDORS.  ADMISSION IS FREE AND EVERYONE IS INVITED.

4/18  THE OWEN FAMILY WILL BE AT MARLBORO MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, JUST NORTH OF BRUCETON, ON SATURDAY NIGHT AT 7PM FOR A GOSPEL SINGING.  EVERYONE IS WELCOMED.

4/18  THE REFUGE DISCOVERY SERIES PROGRAM “WHAT’S THAT ANIMAL TRACK” WILL BE AT THE NEW REFUGE VISITOR CENTER IN SPRINGVILLE ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON STARTING AT 1PM.  PARTICIPANTS WILL LISTEN TO A PROGRAM TEACHING TRACK AND SCAT IDENTIFICATION, FOLLOWED BY GOING OUT ON THE REFUGE TO TEST THEIR SKILLS WITH TRACKS LEFT NEAR THE REFUGE.  GUESTS WILL ALSO MAKE PLASTER CASTS OF TRACKS TO TAKE HOME.  THE PROGRAM IS OFFERED FREE OF CHARGE.

4/18  THE 1ST ANNUAL “MILES FOR MEALS” 5K AND 1 MILE FUN RUN WILL BE SATURDAY AT THE MARTIN RECREATIONAL COMPLEX.  THIS EVENT IS BEING HELD TO HELP PROVIDE EMERGENCY ITEMS LIKE MEAL AND HEATERS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES.  TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE EVENT OR HOW TO REGISTER, CALL 587-4213.

4/18  THE HENRY COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE JUNIOR COMMITTEE & THE HENRY COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC DEPARTMENT WILL PRESENT “JAMMIN’ FOR A CURE” ON SATURDAY FROM 2PM-4PM.  THEY HAVE DECIDED TO MOVE THE EVENT BECAUSE OF THE INCREASED CHANCE OF RAIN THIS WEEKEND.   INSTEAD OF BEING AT MEMORIAL PARK, THE EVENT WILL NOW TAKE PLACE AT GAMLIN GYM AT HENRY COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL.  THERE WILL BE MUSIC FROM THE HENRY COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT BAND, JAZZ ENSEMBLE, MADRIGALS AND MORE.  THERE IS NO ADMISSION BUT DONATIONS TO RELAY FOR LIFE WILL BE ACCEPTED.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 336-3719

4/18  THE JACKSON PURCHASE DANCE COMPANY WILL HOLD THEIR “DANCE IN AMERICA” PERFORMANCE ON SATURDAY IN LOVETT AUDITORIUM ON THE MURRAY STATE CAMPUS STARTING AT 2PM.  “DANCE IN AMERICA” IS A CONCERT OF DANCES INTERPRETING THE SONGS OF AMERICAN COMPOSERS.  ADMISSION IS $8 FOR ADULTS, $6 FOR STUDENTS UNDER THE AGE OF 16 AND CHILDREN UNDER THREE ARE ADMITTED FREE.

4/19  THE TENNESSEE HIGH SCHOOL RODEO WILL BE AT THE MCWHERTER AG COMPLEX ON THE UTM CAMPUS THIS WEEKEND.  OVER 100 CONTESTANTS FROM TENNESSEE, ALABAMA, MISSISSIPPI AND MISSOURI WILL COMPETE FOR THE CHANCE TO ADVANCE TO THE NATIONAL FINALS IN WYOMING IN JULY.  ACTION BEGINS AT 7PM SATURDAY NIGHT AND 10AM ON SUNDAY MORNING.  TICKETS ARE $10 FOR ADULTS, $8 FOR AGES 5-12, 4 & UNDER GET IN FREE.

4/21  THERE WILL BE A HIRING EVENT WITH “A PLACE CALLED HOME” AT GOODWILL CAREER SOLUTIONS, ON SOUTH FIRST STREET IN UNION CITY, ON TUESDAY FROM 11AM-2PM.  “A PLACE CALLED HOME” SEEKS TO HIRE 10 CAREGIVER POSITIONS IN UNION CIT AND THE SURROUNDING AREA.  PAY RATE RANGES FROM $8-$9 PER HOUR BASED ON EXPERIENCE.  BRING YOUR RESUME, PHOTO ID, SOCIAL SECURITY CARD AND COME READY TO INTERVIEW.

4/26  DRESDEN HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2015 WILL PRESENT “THE GREAT PRETENDERS” AT THE DRESDEN HIGH SCHOOL GYM ON SATURDAY, APRIL 25TH AT 7:30PM AND SUNDAY, APRIL 26TH AT 2PM.  TICKETS ARE $7 IN ADVANCE OR $8 AT THE DOOR.

4/29  HENRY COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER WILL OFFER HEALTH SCREENINGS AT RHODES INSURANCE, ON MINERAL WELLS AVENUE IN PARIS, ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29TH FROM 9AM-11AM.  THERE WILL BE FREE FINGER STICK BLOOD SUGAR, OSTEOPOROSIS AND BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS AVAILABLE.  PLUS, FINGER STICK TOTAL CHOLESTEROL AND LIPID PANEL TESTS WILL BE OFFERED FOR A MINIMAL FEE.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 644-8266.

4/30  THE MONTH OF APRIL IS “HENRY COUNTY RABIES VACCINATION MONTH”.  ALL PARTICIPATING ANIMAL CLINICS IN HENRY COUNTY WILL OFFER DOG OR CAT VACCINATIONS FOR $6 PLUS A $1.50 LICENSE FEE.  LAKEWAY ANIMAL CLINIC, MINERAL WELLS ANIMAL CLINIC, PARIS VETERINARY CLINIC AND THE ANIMAL DOCTOR WILL OFFER THESE SPECIAL RATES THROUGH APRIL 30TH.

4/30  UNION CITY PARKS AND RECREATION NOW HAS SIX FLAGS ST. LOUIS TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE.  THE PRICE FOR A ONE DAY GENERAL ADMISSION TICKET IS $40.  SEASON PASSES ARE AVAILABLE AS WELL.  FOR MORE INFORMATION, CALL 885-0354 OR GO TO UCPARK.COM.

5/2  THE “TWISTER TROT” 5K RUN/WALK WILL BE ON SATURDAY, MAY 2ND AT UNION CITY HIGH SCHOOL.  REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN AT 7AM AND THE RACE WILL START AT 8AM.  THE ENTRY FEE IS $20 IF YOU PAY BY APRIL 17TH; OTHERWISE IT IS $25 ON RACE DAY.  PLUS, ALL UNION CITY SCHOOL STUDENTS MAY PARTICIPATE FOR HALF PRICE.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE UNION CITY MIDDLE SCHOOL PTO.

5/1  SHILOH METHODIST WILL PRESENT THE YOUTH WORSHIP EXPERIENCE “SOAR 2015” ON FRIDAY, MAY 1ST AT THE CENTRAL COMMUNITY CENTER ON JONES BEND EXTENDED IN PARIS STARTING AT 7PM.  JUSTIN DALEY WILL BE THE FEATURED SPEAKER AND THERE WILL BE MUSIC FROM CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN BAND “RISEN”.  EVERYONE IS WELCOME.

5/2  THE FIRST ANNUAL BIG SANDY PROJECT GRADUATION 5K COLOR RUN/WALK ON SATURDAY, MAY 2ND AT BIG SANDY HIGH SCHOOL STARTING AT 9AM.  ENTRY FEE IS $20.  THERE WILL BE TROPHIES AWARDED TO THE TOP FINISHERS IN EACH AGE BRACKET.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL CHRISTIE AT 731-441-4936.

5/15  THE UNION CITY CIVITAN CLUB ARE SELLING VIDALIA ONIONS AGAIN THIS YEAR.  THE SWEET ONIONS WILL BE DELIVERED AROUND MAY 15TH FRESH FROM THE VIDALIA ONION FIELDS IN GEORGIA.  THE CLUB WILL BE TAKING PRE-ORDERS AND SELLING A 10LBS BAG FOR $10.  ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE WILL GO TOWARD SUPPORTING THE CLUB’S CHARITABLE PROJECTS.  FOR MORE INFORMATION OR TO PRE-ORDER, CALL JERRY PASCHALL AT 536-5519
