7/4  THE CITY OF UNION CITY AND DISCOVERY PARK OF AMERICA ARE ONCE AGAIN TEAMING UP TO CELEBRATE THE 4TH OF JULY THIS WEEKEND.  DISCOVERY PARK WILL BE OPEN FROM 10AM-10PM ON SATURDAY.  ADMISSION IS $10 ALL DAY.  THEN, ENTRANCE TO THE GROUNDS WILL BE FREE STARTING AT 5PM.  THERE WILL BE CARNIVAL RIDES, FREE FLAGS AND LIVE MUSIC FEATURING AVONLEA.  THE FIREWORKS DISPLAY WILL BEGIN AT 9PM.  TO FIND OUT MORE, GO TO DISCOVERYPARKOFAMERICA.COM.

7/4  THE HOMEPLACE AT LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES WILL CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY ON SATURDAY FROM 1PM-4PM WITH RACES, SKILLET TOSSING, HORSE SHOES, OLD TIME MUSIC AND GAMES.  PLUS, KENTUCKY STATESMAN HENRY CLAY, PORTRAYED BY GEORGE MCGEE, WILL ENTERTAIN VISITORS WITH ANTICS OF 1850’S POLITICS.  ADMISSION IS $5 FOR AGES 13 & UP, $3 FOR AGES 5-12 AND FREE FOR AGES 4 AND UNDER.

7/4  THE ANNUAL FREEDOM FESTIVAL WILL BE HELD IN MCKENZIE ON SATURDAY STARTING WITH THE PARADE AT 6PM.  PLUS, THERE WILL BE VENDORS, MUSIC FROM “COOPER THE BAND” AT 6:30, A WATERSLIDE FOR THE KIDS AND FIREWORKS STARTING AT 9PM.

7/4  THE 40TH ANNUAL COTTAGE GROVE FREEDOM FESTIVAL WILL KICK OFF SATURDAY MORNING WITH THE GRAND PARADE AT 10AM.  AFTER THAT, THERE WILL BE GAMES, BINGO, LIVE MUSIC FROM THE GREAT RIVER ROAD BAND, ARTS & CRAFTS AND MORE THROUGHOUT THE DAY.  THE FESTIVITIES WILL END WITH A BIG FIREWORKS DISPLAY AT 9PM.

7/4  THE TOWN OF TRIMBLE, TN WILL HOST THEIR ANNUAL INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION ON SATURDAY, JULY 4TH.  THE EVENT WILL KICK OFF WITH A PARADE AT 6PM FOLLOWED BY A CORN HOLE TOURNAMENT, CAKEWALK, TRAIN RIDES, FOOD AND MUSIC FROM THE BAND FUNKY FINGER.  FIREWORKS WILL BEGIN IN DOWNTOWN TRIMBLE AT 9PM.

7/6  THE OBION COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY WILL CONTINUE THEIR SUMMER READING PROGRAM EVENTS WITH “SAFARI GREG” ON MONDAY MORNING AT 10AM.  GREG COMBINES THE SKILLS OF A MASTER MAGICIAN, THE HUMOR OF A COMEDIAN AND THE KNOWLEDGE OF A WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST TO CREATE AN ENGAGING SHOW.  THE EVENT IS FREE TO ALL.  TO FIND OUT MORE, GO TO OCLIBRARY.ORG.

7/7  MANPOWER WILL HOST A HIRING EVENT ON TUESDAY FROM 11AM-2PM AT GOODWILL CAREER SOLUTIONS IN UNION CTIY.  MANPOWER SEEKS TO HIRE OVER 20 FORKLIFT OPERATOR, WELDER, PRODUCTION, MAINTENANCE AND CLERICAL POSITIONS IN UNION CITY, MARTIN AND TRENTON.  PAY RATE IS $7.25-$15 PER HOUR BASED ON EXPERIENCE.  THE TENNESSEE CAREER COACH WILL ALSO BE ON SITE TO HELP WITH VARIOUS JOB LEADS.  BRING YOUR RESUME, PHOTO ID, SOCIAL SECURITY CARD AND COME PREPARED TO INTERVIEW.

7/9  THE FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER IN PARIS WILL ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FOR FREE SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND BACKPACKS ON JULY 7TH-9TH FROM 9AM-1PM.  FAMILIES MUST BRING PROOF OF INCOME AND MEET ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.  CALL 642-2938 FOR MORE INFORMATION.

7/11  THERE WILL BE A “FORGET ME NOT IN THE VINEYARD” FUNDRAISER AT THE PARIS WINERY ON SATURDAY, JULY 11TH FROM 6PM-10PM.  TICKETS ARE $25 AND THEY INCLUDE A T-SHIRT, A CONCERT BY “THE CONCH FRITTERS” AND A FREE WINE TASTING.  THIS IS AN ALZHEIMER FUNDRAISING EVENT.  TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE PARIS WINERY OR BY CALLING 731-333-2042.

7/12  THERE WILL BE A BENEFIT FOR ASSISTANT PARIS LANDING FIRE CHIEF TAMMY HINSON ON SUNDAY, JULY 12TH FROM 2PM-6PM AT MATT’S PUB ON HIGHWAY 79 IN PARIS.  HINSON IS RECOVERING FROM A SERIOUS SURGERY, SO FAMILY AND FELLOW FIREFIGHTERS ARE TRYING TO RAISE AS MUCH AS THEY CAN TO HELP HER PAY FOR MEDICAL BILLS AND EXPENSES.  A “GOFUNDME” ACCOUNT HAS ALSO BEEN SET UP TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR HINSON WITH A GOAL OF $7500. 7/18  THE PARIS YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE WILL HOLD SIGN-UPS AT THE PARIS CIVIC CENTER ON SATURDAY, JULY 11TH AND SATURDAY, JULY 18TH FROM 9:30AM-NOON EACH DAY.  TRY OUTS WILL BE AT BARTON FIELD AT 9:45AM ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 15TH.  THE COST IS $40 PER PARTICIPANT.

7/18  THE TOWN OF TROY PRESENTS “TROY COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT DAYS” FRIDAY, JULY 17TH AND SATURDAY, JULY 18TH ON THE SQUARE IN TROY.  THERE WILL BE MUSIC, A 5K, BEAUTY PAGEANTS, CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT, GREASED PIG CONTEST AND MORE.  FOR A FULL LIST OF EVENTS, GO TO TROYTN.COM.

7/18  WRANGLERS CAMPGROUND WILL HOST THE 19TH ANNUAL PRIMITIVE RODEO ON FRIDAY, JULY 17TH AND SATURDAY, JULY 18TH AT LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES NATIONAL RECREATION AREA.  EVENTS INCLUDE BAREBACK RIDING, SADDLE BRONC RIDING, STEER WRESTLING, BULL RIDING AND MORE.  ADMISSION IS $10 FOR AGES 13-59, $8 FOR 60 AND UP, $6 FOR AGES 7-12 AND FREE FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 6.  BRING LAWN CHAIRS AND BLANKETS FOR SEATING.

7/21  UNION CITY CIVITAN WILL HOST THEIR OPEN TENNIS TOURNAMENT JULY 24TH – JULY 26TH AT THE UNION CITY COURTS NEXT TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.  THERE ARE BOTH SINGLES AND DOUBLES CATEGORIES FOR GIRLS & BOYS AND MEN & WOMEN.  ENTRY FEE IS $20 PER PERSON FOR ONE EVENT OR $15 PER PERSON IF ENTERED IN TWO OR MORE EVENTS.  ENTRY FORMS MUST BE TURNED IN BY TUESDAY, JULY 21ST.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 731-885-9730.

7/25  TITAN TIRE WILL HOST “AG DAY” AT THEIR UNION CITY FACILITY ON SATURDAY, JULY 25TH FROM 9AM-5PM.  THE EVENT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND FEATURES A TIRE AUCTION, LIVE MUSIC, FOOD AND MORE.  ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE AUCTION AND FOOD SALES WILL GO TO FFA CHAPTERS IN NORTHWEST TENNESSEE AND WESTERN KENTUCKY.  FOR MORE INFORMATION, CALL 446-7295.

8/13  NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2015 “PRIDE OF OBION COUNTY” ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED.  NOMINATIONS MUST BE BASED ON A PERSON’S LEADERSHIP, COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND CONCERN FOR OTHER PEOPLE.  THE DEADLINE IS THURSDAY, AUGUST 13TH.  THE WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN EARLY SEPTEMBER AND HONORED AT THE CORN FEST PRIDE OF OBION COUNTY LUNCHEON ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH.  FOR MORE INFORMATION, CALL 731-431-8132.
