5/29  LIFELINE WILL BE AT THE WEAKLEY EAST RELAY FOR LIFE EVENT IN GLEASON ON FRIDAY, MAY 29TH FROM 7PM-11PM.  COME OUT AND DONATE TO HELP AREA HOSPITALS KEEP AN ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF BLOOD FOR THE COMMUNITY.

5/30  THE QUINN CHAPEL AME CHURCH, 218 E. CHURCH STREET IN PARIS,  WILL HOLD ITS 63RD ANNUAL PANCAKE BREAKFAST ON SATURDAY MORNING STARTING AT 7AM.  THE MENU INCLUDES ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT PANCAKES, SAUSAGE, JUICE, COFFEE AND MILK.  THE COST IS $8 FOR ADULTS AND $4 FOR CHILDREN UNDER 13.  YOU CAN DINE IN, CARRY OUT OR HAVE IT DELIVERED.  FOR DELIVERY, CALL 642-8445.

5/30  THE WEAKLEY COUNTY FARM BUREAU AND TAYLOR AUTOMOTIVE ARE JOINING TOGETHER TO HOST A FOOD DRIVE AT THE DRESDEN FARMERS’ MARKET ON SATURDAY MORNING FROM 8AM-NOON.  ALL DONATIONS AND PROCEEDS WILL GO EQUALLY TO WE CARE MINISTRIES, SANTA’S HELPERS AND SACKS FOOD PANTRY.

5/30  THE HENRY COUNTY PREVENTION COALITION AND THE HENRY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WILL HOLD A DRUG TAKE BACK EVENT ON SATURDAY FROM 9AM-1PM AT THE MCDONALD’S REAR PARKING LOT ON MINERAL WELLS AVENUE IN PARIS.  FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, CALL ERICA AT 336-2250.

5/30  DISCOVERY PARK OF AMERICA WILL HOLD THEIR 2ND ANNUAL CARDBOARD BOAT REGATTA ON SATURDAY MORNING.  BOAT INSPECTION WILL BEGIN AT 9AM AND THE RACES WILL START AT 11AM.  THE RACES WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE SOUTH LAKE NEAR THE FINAL FLIGHT REELFOOT LANDING.

5/30  THE TENNESSEE WILDLIFE REFUGE WILL HOST A KIDS FISHING DERBY FROM 9:30AM-NOON ON SATURDAY AT 3815 FOUNDRY HILL ROAD NEAR PURYEAR.  THE EVENT IS FREE FOR KIDS AGE 12 AND UNDER, BUT CHILDREN MUST HAVE AN ADULT WITH THEM.  PARTICIPANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BRING THEIR OWN FISHING GEAR AND TACKLE.  BAIT WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE TENNESSEE WILDLIFE REFUGE.  TO RSVP OR TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL THE REFUGE OFFICE AT 642-2091.

5/30 SATURDAY WILL BE A “CHILDREN’S DAY ON THE FARM” AT THE HOMEPLACE AT THE LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES NATIONAL RECREATION AREA.  CHILDREN WILL LEARN THE IMPORTANCE OF DOING CHORES ON AN 1850’S FARM LIKE MAKING A BED, WEAVING AND WORKING WITH MULES AND OXEN AT TEAMSTER TRAINING.  CHILDREN CAN EARN CREDITS FOR THEIR HARD WORK THAT CAN BE USED IN THE GENERAL STORE DURING THE DAY.  ADMISSION IS $5 FOR 13 & UP, $3 FOR AGES 5-12 AND AGES 4 & UNDER ARE FREE.  TO GET ALL THE DETAILS, GO TO LANDBETWEENTHELAKES.US.

5/30 THE PARIS-HENRY COUNTY HERITAGE CENTER IS HOSTING A QUILT SHOW FEATURING QUILTS OWNED AND CREATED BY HENRY COUNTY QUILTERS.  THE EXHIBIT WILL FEATURE ANTIQUE QUILTS AS WELL AS CONTEMPORARY CREATIONS.  THE EXHIBIT RUNS THROUGH SATURDAY AT THE HERITAGE CENTER IN PARIS.  ADMISSION IS FREE.

5/31  DURING THIS GRADUATION SEASON, THE OBION COUNTY PREVENTION COALITION WANTS TO REMINDS YOU THAT IF YOU’RE UNDER 21, YOU CANNOT HAVE ANY ALCOHOL IN YOUR BLOODSTREAM UNDER THE TENNESSEE “ZERO TOLERANCE LAW”.  IF YOU DRINK AND GET CAUGHT, YOU COULD FACE SEVERE PENALTIES.  AND PARENTS, IF YOU MAKE ALCOHOL AVAILABLE AT TEEN PARTIES, YOU CAN BE PROSECUTED.  BEFORE YOU DRINK, THINK!

6/5  THE OBION COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY WILL HOLD EARLY REGISTRATION FOR THEIR SUMMER READING PROGRAM WITH “SUPER WHY” FROM PBS STATION WLJT ON FRIDAY, JUNE 5TH AT 2PM.  THE KICK-OFF PARTY WILL BE MONDAY, JUNE 8TH AT 10AM WITH BOUNCE HOUSES, THE BALLOON GUY AND MORE.  FOR EVERY 10 BOOKS A CHILD READS THIS SUMMER, THEY WILL EARN PRIZES FROM LOCAL BUSINESSES.  TO FIND OUT MORE OR TO GET REGISTERED IN ADVANCE GO TO OCLIBRARY.ORG.

6/6  MARTIN PARKS & REC AND MARTIN KIWANIS WILL HOST A FISHING DERBY ON SATURDAY MORNING, JUNE 6TH AT THE MARTIN RECREATION COMPLEX LAKE.  REGISTRATION FOR THE 14 & UNDER EVENT WILL BEGIN AT 8AM AND FISHING WILL START AT 9AM.  AWARDS WILL BE HANDED OUT IN FOUR DIFFERENT AGE DIVISIONS.  PARTICIPANTS ARE ASKED TO BRING A POLE, BAIT AND A BUCKET.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 587-6784.

6/6 THE 7TH ANNUAL HOPE AND OPPORTUNITY GOLF TOURNAMENT WILL BE SATURDAY, JUNE 6TH AT THE TENNESSEAN GOLF COURSE IN SPRINGVILLE.  Its $60 PER PLAYER AND THAT INCLUDES CART, ALL GREEN FEES AND LUNCH.  CHECK IN BEGINS AT 7AM WITH A SHOTGUN START AT 8AM.  THERE IS A $1000 PRIZE FOR THE LOWEST SCORING TEAM.  PROCEEDS FROM THE TOURNAMENT WILL BENEFIT THE R.E.A.L. 6/6  THE YORKVILLE 8TH GRADE PARENTS WILL SPONSOR A GOSPEL SINGING AT THE YORKVILLE COMMUNITY CENTER ON SATURDAY, JUNE 6TH FEATURING “THE PRIMITIVE QUARTET”.  ADVANCED TICKETS ARE $12 AND THEY ARE AVAILABLE AT THE DIAMOND GALLERY IN DYERSBURG, FIVE SEASONS IN UNION CITY AND DUNCAN PHARMACY IN DYER.  TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR FOR $14.  A WHITE BEAN AND HAMBURGER SUPPER WILL BE HELD BEFORE THE MUSIC AT 5PM.   

6/8  THE OBION COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY WILL HOLD A GRAND OPENING EVENT FOR THEIR NEWLY RENOVATED AMPHITHEATER ON MONDAY, JUNE 8TH AT 9AM.  EVERYONE IN THE COMMUNITY IS INVITED TO ATTEND.

6/8  THE UT EXTENSION OFFICE WILL HOLD A “DINING WITH DIABETES” CLASS FOR ANYONE WHO HAS DIABETES OR WHO WANTS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT DIABETES EDUCATION.  CLASSES WILL BE JUNE 9TH, 11TH, 16TH AND 18TH FROM 2PM-5PM EACH DAY AT THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH FAMILY LIFE CENTER IN UNION CITY.  THE COST TO ATTEND IS $30 AND THE DEADLINE IS MONDAY, JUNE 8TH.  CALL BENITA AT 885-3742 TO REGISTER.

6/13  THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF NORTHWEST TENNESSEE WILL HOST THEIR INAUGURAL 5K/10K SHUFFLE ON SATURDAY, JUNE 13TH AT UNION CITY MIDDLE SCHOOL.  IT IS $20 IF YOU PRE-REGISTER OR YOU CAN PAY $25 ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT.  T-SHIRTS WILL BE GIVEN TO THE FIRST 100 WHO SIGN UP.  REGISTRATION FORMS CAN BE PICKED UP AT THE OBION COUNTY CHAMBER OFFICE, FIRST STATE BANK, FIRST CITIZENS AND HEALTH QUEST.  ALL PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE 2015 SUMMER PROGRAM.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL TRACY AT 885-0883.

6/13  THE 4TH ANNUAL DYER STATION CELEBRATION TOY RUN WILL BE SATURDAY, JUNE 13TH.  REGISTRATION FOR THE 90 MILE RIDE WILL BEGIN AT 10AM AT THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN MANSE HOUSE IN DYER WITH KICKSTANDS UP AT NOON.  IT IS $10 PER RIDER OR A $10 TOY.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE DYER STATION GIVING TREE FOR CHRISTMAS.  CALL 731-225-3071 TO FIND OUT MORE.
