11/27  THE SOUL FOOD CAFÉ AT THE EXCHANGE STREET CHURCH OF CHRIST IN UNION CITY WILL BE OPEN ON THANKSGIVING DAY, THURSDAY FROM NOON-2PM.  THEY WILL PROVIDE A FREE MEAL WITH SMOKED TURKEY AND ALL THE TRIMMINGS.

11/29  THE TENNESSEE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE IN HENRY COUNTY INVITES EVERYONE TO THEIR “TRIM A TREE FOR WILDLIFE” EVENT ON SATURDAY FROM 11AM-3PM AT THE NEW VISITOR CENTER IN SPRINGVILLE.  THE EVENT WILL FEATURE OPPORTUNITIES TO TAKE ITEMS FROM NATURE AND MAKE CRAFTS FOR THE CHRISTMAS SEASON.  THE EVENT AND ENTRY TO THE VISITOR CENTER IS FREE.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 642-2091.

11/29  BRAYLEE’S COTTAGE AND ZOO ON SOUTH 1ST STREET IN UNION CITY WILL HOST FOUR PROMINENT LOCAL AUTHORS ON SATURDAY.  CAMILLE KENDALL, LISA SMART, MERRY BROWN AND KENNY LUCKETT WILL VISIT WITH CUSTOMERS AND SIGN COPIES OF THEIR BOOKS FROM NOON-2PM.  THERE WILL ALSO BE DOOR PRIZES, COMPLIMENTARY LOCALLY BAKED TREATS AND SPECIAL LITERARY-FOCUSED ACTIVITIES FOR ALL AGES.

11/29  DISCOVERY PARK OF AMERICA WILL FEATURE THEIR “SNAKES OF TENNESSEE” EXHIBIT ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AT 2PM IN THE REELFOOT ROOM.  THE EXHIBIT IS FREE WITH PAID ADMISSION TO DPA.

11/29  DONATIONS ARE BEING SOUGHT FOR A SPRINGVILLE FAMILY AFTER A HOUSE FIRE OVER THE WEEKEND.  THE FAMILY NEEDS CLOTHING FOR MEN, WOMEN AND TWO TODDLER BOYS.  THE BOYS ARE IN NEED OF ANY ITEMS FOR LITTLE ONES OF THAT AGE, INCLUDING TOYS.  DONATIONS POINTS FOR THE ITEMS ARE EASTSIDE AUTO REPAIR IN PARIS AND NEXT DOOR TO THE BURNED-OUT HOME ON 240 EAGLE CREEK ROAD, WHERE A FAMILY MEMBER LIVES.

11/29  AN ALUMNI FOOTBALL GAME FEATURING FORMER PLAYERS FROM UNION CITY HIGH SCHOOL AND OBION COUNTY CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL WILL TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY AT WAR MEMORIAL STADIUM IN UNION CITY STARTING AT 7PM.  ALL FORMER PLAYERS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE “TURKEY BOWL”.  THE COST IS $100 PER PLAYER AND THAT DOES COVER ALL EQUIPMENT, A DVD AND ALUMNI SHIRT.  PRE-SALE TICKETS ARE $10 EACH, WITH HALF OF THE MONEY GOING INTO EACH SCHOOL’S FOOTBALL PROGRAM.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 731-335-3838.

11/29  THE BUCHANAN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, ON HIGHWAY 140 EAST, WILL HAVE THEIR 5TH SATURDAY SINGING ON SATURDAY NIGHT.  THERE WILL BE A POT-LUCK MEAL STARTING AT 5PM WITH THE SINGING TO FOLLOW.  EVERYONE IS INIVITED.

11/30  THE “CHRISTMAS BY THE LAKE” ARTS AND CRAFTS FESTIVAL WILL BE AT PARIS LANDING STATE PARK FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.  FRIDAY’S HOURS ARE 3P-8PM AND 8AM-5PM ON BOTH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.

11/30  PARIS QUOTA PECANS HAVE ARRIVED AND ARE AVAILABLE AT SEVERAL BUSINESSES  IN PARIS AND FROM ANY QUOTA MEMBER.  THEY ARE $10 FOR A POUND AND ARE AVAILABLE IN HALVES OR PIECES.

12/1  THE HENRY COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING PATRIOTS BAND ARE SELLING FRUIT AS WELL AS OTHER GOODIES FROM SALLY LANE’S CANDY FARM AND THE POPCORN FACTORY.  YOU CAN SEE ANY BAND STUDENT OR PARENT TO PLACE YOUR ORDERS.  ALL MONEY IS DUE AT THE TIME OF ORDER AND ORDERS ARE DUE BY DECEMBER 1ST.   ORDERS ARE EXPECTED TO BE IN BY DECEMBER 18TH.

12/5  THE DEADLINE TO PURCHASE TICKETS AND RIDE TO “JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAM COAT” AT THE TENNESSEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER IS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5TH.  THE PARIS-HENRY COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL HAS PLENTY OF ROOM ON THEIR CHARTERED BUS FOR THE SHOWS IN FEBRUARY.  TICKETS ARE $85 PER PERSON AND THAT INCLUDES YOUR TICKET AND BUS RIDE TO AND FROM NASHVILLE.  IF INTERESTED, CONTACT THE ART COUNCIL TO FIND OUT MORE AT 642-3955.

12/6  THE UNION CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PTO INVITES EVERYONE TO THE SCHOOL GYMNASIUM ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 9TH AT 6PM FOR A NIGHT OF MUSIC AND A VISIT FROM SANTA CLAUS.  THERE WILL BE MUSIC FROM THE UCES CHORUS KIDS AND VOICES OF UCES.  IN ADDITION, KIDS CAN GET PHOTOS TAKEN WITH SANTA AND MRS. CLAUS.  PLUS, THERE WILL BE A SPECIAL VISIT FROM WLJT’S CURIOUS GEORGE.  IT’S A FUN-FILLED NIGHT FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY.

12/7  THE GLEASON CLINIC WILL WELCOME SANTA CLAUS ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7TH FROM 1:30PM-3:30PM.  KIDS ARE WELCOME TO COME OUT TO SEE SANTA WITH THE CHRISTMAS WISH LISTS.

12/8  AUDITIONS FOR THE DIXIE PLAYER’S PRODUCTION OF “BIG:  THE MUSICAL” WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7TH AT 2PM AND MONDAY, DECEMBER 8TH AT 6PM AT THE DIXIE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER IN HUNTINGDON.  THE SHOW REQUIRES A WIDE VARIETY OF CHARACTERS FROM AGES 10 TO ADULT.  THE PRODUCTION WILL ALSO NEED PEOPLE WHO WISH TO HELP OUT WITH COSTUMES, PROPS AND SET.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 986-2100 (EXTENSION 224).

12/8  NEW HARMONY BAPTIST CHURCH IN PARIS WILL HAVE THEIR 17TH ANNUAL “LIVE NATIVITY” DECEMBER 5TH-7TH FROM 6PM-9PM.  YOU CAN DRIVE THROUGH A TRAIL OF LUMINARIES AND VIEW LIVING SCENES DEPICTING THE BIRTH OF CHRIST.  THE CHURCH IS LOCATED ON HIGHWAY 69 SOUTH IN PARIS JUST 5 MILES FROM THE HIGHWAY 218 BYPASS.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 593-5276.

12/8  MAIN STREET UNION CITY WILL PRESENT THE 2014 CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 8TH.  THE DAY WILL KICK OFF WITH SANTA IN MERCHANTS PARK AT 4PM.  THEN, AT 5:30PM, 2014 PRIDE OF OBION COUNTY, DAVID HARRIS WILL HELP LIGHT THE TREE IN FRONT OF THE OBION COUNTY COURTHOUSE.  THERE WILL BE MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT FROM THE OBION COUNTY CHILDREN’S CHORUS, UNION CITY ELEMENTARY CHORUS KIDS AND THE VOICES OF UCHS.  THE UNION CITY CHRISTMAS PARADE WILL FOLLOW AT 7PM.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL PHYLISS AT THE MAIN STREET OFFICE AT 885-8330.

12/13  THE OBION COUNTY ADULT LEADERSHIP CLASS WILL HOST A “LEADERSHIP CHRISTMAS-PALOOZA” ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6TH AND SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13TH FROM 9AM-3PM AT CENTER-POINT BUSINESS SOLUTIONS IN UNION CITY.  EVERYONE IS INVITED TO BRING OUT THEIR UNWRAPPED GIFTS AND HAVE THEM CHRISTMAS-WRAPPED FOR A SMALL FEE.  WHILE YOUR GIFTS ARE BEING WRAPPED, ENJOY BAKED GOODS AND HOT CHOCOLATE.  ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE EVENT WILL GO TO THE OBION COUNTY LEADERSHIP CLASS PROJECT.

12/14  MASQUERADE THEATER WILL PRESENT THE CHRISTMAS CLASSIC “MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET” AT THE CAPITOL THEATER IN DOWNTOWN UNION CITY FOR TWO STRAIGHT WEEKENDS STARTING ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5TH.  FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT PERFORMANCES START AT 7:30PM AND SUNDAY AFTERNOON MATINEES START AT 2PM.  TICKETS ARE JUST $10 AND CAN BE PURCHASED ONLINE AT UCMASQUERADETHEATER.COM OR AT THE BOX OFFICE 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO SHOWTIME.

12/18  UNION CITY PARKS AND RECREATION WILL SEND LETTERS FROM SANTA FOR ALL REQUESTS RECEIVED BY DECEMBER 18TH AT NOON.    PARENTS ARE ASKED TO CALL THE PARK OFFICE AT 885-0354 OR VISIT THEIR WEBSITE UCPARK.COM FOR DETAILS.  YOU CAN ALSO GO BY CITY HALL, FILL OUT A FORM AND PUT IT IN THE SANTA LETTERS BOX.  LETTERS WILL BE SENT TO ANY ADDRESS IN THE UNITED STATES.

1/2  LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES NATIONAL RECREATION AREA IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2015 SEASONAL CAMPING PROGRAM.  THERE ARE A TOTAL OF 113 CAMPSITES IN THE SEASONAL CAMPING PROGRAM AVAILABLE FOR TWO TO NINE MONTHS AT HILLMAN FERRY, PINEY AND WRANGLERS CAMPGROUND.  CRAVENS BAY AND TAYLOR BAY CAMPGROUNDS HAVE A TOTAL OF 21 SHORT-TERM SITES AVAILABLE.  COMPLETE APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY JANUARY 2ND.  TO FIND OUT MORE, GO TO LANDBETWEENTHELAKES.US OR CALL 270-924-2044.
