UTM to Host Summer Piano Camp

Martin, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin will host a summer piano camp from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., June 12-16, in the UT Martin Fine Arts Building. Intermediate and advanced-level piano students who have completed the seventh through 12th grades are invited to participate.

Registration is $275 per student, and activities include piano lessons and ensemble coaching from camp director Dr. Elaine Harriss, UT Martin professor of music, as well as musical theory classes and organ lessons, an introduction to the harpsichord and daily sight-reading instruction. Lunch will be available on campus in the Skyhawk Dining Hall.

Special topics will include a study of sonata form using composer Franz Schubert’s “Fantasie in F Minor” for piano duet, a look at the life of Franz Joseph Haydn and a performance by the UT Martin University Trio.

Participants will present a public program of solo and ensemble performances at 4 p.m., June 16, for parents, family and friends.

Scholarships are available for a limited number of students based on application. Those wishing to apply for a camp scholarship must contact Harriss before June 1.
